My current research is centered around understanding and quantifying the dynamics of human behavior. My interests are broadly in studying complex systems and the formalization of social and behavioral theory.

Past Projects

My past projects span many fields including control systems engineering, metaphysics, and biophysics. These are primarily from my time at Arizona State University, where I had the incredible opportunity to explore so many topics and receive guidance and mentorship from such a diverse set of individuals.

1 / Adaptive Physical Activity Interventions

This project worked towards developing personalized adaptive interventions for sedentary adults. My work contributed to the system identification side of the project, which used walking data gathered by our collaborators at UCSD. Here, I also used discrete simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (DSPSA), developed by Jim Spall at the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, to more efficiently identify optimal model features and parameter values.

2 / Causation as Causal Influence

This project served as my undergraduate thesis, in which I attempted to provide a quantitative framework of David Lewis's causal influence account of causality. 

Thesis Committee: Jeffrey Watson, Thad Botham, David McElhoes (ASU Philosophy Department)

This project developed a Bayesian nonparametric framework to analyze single molecule FRET data. For this project, I produced the validation data from single molecule experiments on Holliday junctions labeled with conventional fluorescent dyes.

4 / Mechanical Forces in the Origins of Life

Based on the work of Alexander Oparin's primordial soup theory of the origins of life, this was an experimental project that assessed the possibility of raindrops as a mechanical driver in producing early vesicle-like structures that could have facilitated the creation of the first building blocks of life.
